DR. ELIZABETH “BETH” BARRERA holds a Physician and Surgeon license in the state of WA and CA. She specializes in using traditional osteopathic manual medicine to treat adults, children and infants. Osteopathic medicine differs in it’s counterpart of MD’s by learning hands on manipulation to treat all body mind dysfunctions as a first line agent in lieu of prescribing medicine and/or performing surgery. Beth is board certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Techniques.
Dr. Barrera has been in practice since 2012 after obtaining her doctorate degree from Western University in Pomona CA. She was selected for a pre-Doctoral teaching fellowship in the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine department and taught traditional Osteopathy at the medical school to extend her training an additional year. During her career she has completed and facilitated multiple cranial courses through the Cranial Academy as well a neuro-endocrine course treating brain disorders through cranial manipulation. She has dedicated thousands of hours training and practicing in the field of Osteopathic manipulative techniques.
She completed a three-year residency in family practice at PIH Health hospital in Downey, California. During her training she received specialized training in platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections while training in orthopedic surgery. She consulted at the Center for Wellness in Montebello CA performing PRP and osteopathic manipulation using an integrative approach to the healing the body as well as cosmetic rejuvenation.
Beth obtained a BA in Psychology with a specialization in computing from UCLA and has spent her career learning about the complex interchange of mind, body and behavior in the manifestation of disease. She found herself called into the field of substance use disorders and relocated her family to Seattle to complete a fellowship in Addiction Medicine with an emphasis in high-risk Obstetrics. She plans on taking the board exam in Addiction Medicine in 2019 to become board certified in treating addiction through the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).
Dr. Barrera found herself in love with the wonder and the beauty of WA during her fellowship in Seattle and landed in the beautiful city of Snohomish with her husband. Being Native American she felt a peace and wellbeing in Snohomish where she and her family could plant their roots. She delivered her second child with the Snohomish Midwives at her home. She plans to serve and grow within her community with the intention of giving her family and community the dream of living in a healthy, holistic and loving environment to grow in.
